In the spirit of celebrating local business, esteemed writer Heidi Butzine, author of “Shop Local, A Practical Pain Free Guide to Shopping with Purpose,” will be at SAGE, signing copies of her book. According to an article posted by Online PR News released earlier this month, Butzine explained how shopping local can reduce everyone’s “carbon footprint”: “An important step towards leading a green lifestyle includes sustainability and taking steps towards conservation. Shopping local is directly related not only because it means less driving thereby reducing harmful exhaust emissions but more money spent locally stays within the community supporting the sustainability of our local economy. Following the tips I offer in my book, in some cases I’ve actually spent less at independently owned local businesses and had less waste by getting better quality products that last longer.”

On April 20 & 21 Manhattan Beach will go green. The 2013 SAGE (Sustainable and Green Environments) will host a free event at the MB National Guard Armory from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This expo is designed to promote the “green lifestyle,” environmentally friendly services, and nutrition. According to a press release on the SAGE event, Angela Silverman, one of the event organizers, explains the objectives of the environmental expo. She states: “Sage Expo offers goods and products to help make our lives greener so we can enjoy a healthy life while also sustaining our beautiful beach communities and its environment. Mark Lipps, another organizer for the event adds: “Sage has a mission to our community on what local business and organizations have to offer so consumers can lower their monthly utilities and develop a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.”

There will be local vendors at the event including: Pages a Bookstore, Shop Local, doTERRA Essential Oils and Food Truck Connection.
